Summary: 

Zapata Technology is seeking an experienced Naval and Integrated Fires Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support advanced command and control (C2) and fires integration initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in naval fires systems, joint interoperability, and tactical data link (TDL) operations, with proven experience integrating, testing, and operating critical fire support capabilities in lab, tactical, and shipboard environments. This role offers the opportunity to directly contribute to mission success by ensuring seamless connectivity and data exchange across joint and coalition systems while mentoring and training operators in cutting-edge fires technologies.

 

Job Duties:

  • Install and configure AFATDS in lab, tactical, and shipboard networks.
  • Operate AFATDS to generate, receive, and process fire missions and VMF messages.
  • Configure tactical and shipboard radios (including NFCS) for AFATDS VMF transmissions with distant-end users.
  • Integrate JTCW clients with AFATDS using Effects Management Tool for track/overlay exchange.
  • Connect JTCW/EMT clients to Tactical COP Server to ingest GCCS track and overlay data.
  • Install, update, and configure JADOCS in lab, tactical, and shipboard environments.
  • Operate JADOCS to support targeting and fire-support missions.
  • Configure AFATDS and JADOCS interfaces for GCCS, Link-16, and VMF data exchange.
  • Provide over-the-shoulder training on installation, configuration, and operation of JADOCS, AFATDS, and JTCW/EMT to end users and teammates.
  • Plan and execute shipboard testing events (pier-side and at-sea) and participate in at-sea evolutions.[CH1] [DS2] 
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and report on fire-support systems’ performance during integration and demonstration tests.
  • Develop test cases, procedures, and functional checklists for fires-related test events.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during tests and operations, document findings, and brief test teams/stakeholders.

 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and operating AFATDS and JADOCS in lab, tactical, or shipboard environments.
  • Proven operation of AFATDS VMF messaging and interoperability with VMF Test Tool, DFSTS, and other simulation tools.
  • Experience configuring tactical and shipboard radio systems for VMF and integrated fires communications.
  • Practical knowledge integrating JTCW/EMT clients with AFATDS and connecting to Tactical COP Server and GCCS.
  • Familiarity with data-exchange standards and interfaces: VMF, Link-16, and GCCS integration.
  • Experience planning and conducting shipboard test events, including pier-side and at-sea test operations.
  • Test engineering experience: developing test cases, procedures, functional checklists, executing tests, and producing PEAR reports.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with documented examples of diagnosing and resolving C2/fires system issues.
  • Instructor/mentoring experience delivering over-the-shoulder and hands-on training to operators and maintainers.
  • Ability to document technical issues and brief technical and non-technical audiences.

 

Education/Experience required: 

  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience.  
  • 3 years of experience can be substituted by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, and two years of experience can be substituted by completion of a Master’s degree in a related field

 

Working Conditions: 

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  Use of standard office equipment.
